    2001 Volvo S60 2.4t Part Out

Earlier this year my son had an encounter with a light pole in the high school parking lot with his Volvo S60. Fortunately no one was hurt but the Volvo sustained enough damage that repairing it was probably not a reasonable option. Aside from the obvious issues; both front air bags deployed, the transmission took a good hit and the starter got snapped off. Since I am relatively new to these cars I did go ahead and gather a few opinions before making a final decision on whether or not to have it repaired.  The consensus, as expected, was that it would cost much more to fix the car than it was worth.

I am slowly but surely parting this car out and will be documenting that process in this post. I’m hoping this will keep me focused on the task at hand so that I can finally get this thing stripped down and out of my driveway. And who knows, maybe this information will help someone out in the future who is trying to dismantle one of these.

For now I am uploading the photos that I have of the car post-crash and then I plan to come back and add photos of the process of taking it apart and sending the parts on to hopefully help keep another Volvo on the road longer. Being a transplant recipient myself I know how grateful those other cars will feel when they get the parts from this one. 🙂

I am not a professional mechanic (or writer) but I take pride in fixing cars and not only keeping them going but making them better. I have slightly above average skills just like I would expect a lot of people who find this website do. Please follow my advice at your own risk... sometimes I fix things but sometimes I make them worse!
